At the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in St. Paul, Minnesota,
for the Telecommunications Network Operations Center located in
Fort Worth, Texas.
Supported and maintained a realtime client/server network monitoring system, for several different nationwide networks of electronic monitoring and control devices. Supported and maintained a morning report generation and distribution system for the RailRoad, originally written in 1995, but this time using Perl, Sybase database backend, sybperl interface library, and Remedy Trouble Ticket system; more than 100 reports are sent daily via network printer, fax, NFS, and email, to remote locations.
This Morning Report system provides crucial tracking information on problem status and history to BNSF Managers and Technicians all over the country.
1994 - 1995
At the Burlington Northern Railroad in St. Paul, Minnesota, for the
Communications Network Control Center.
Developed a graphical support tool to assist electronic network controllers in contacting support personnel nationwide, by providing a visual map of equipment sites with associated textual information of support personnel, via Ingres Database. Application written using the OpenLook widget set and the DataViews ® graphics package. FSF/GNU software used heavily, in combination with custom and commercial software. This DB_map (database map) application is described in greater detail.
